This stainless steel series is widely utilized to operate overhead chemical dosing valves, sterile steam lines, and marine ballast systems. The non-sparking properties of austenitic stainless steel make it exceptionally safe for explosive atmospheres (ATEX zones). Two inputs decide the final configuration: the handwheel height above the operator’s standing level, and the horizontal distance the operator stands from the pipe axis. Where the chain has to run around a corner or past a handrail, the guide loop position is set at order stage so the chain clears the structure.
Mounting Method
The wheel clamps concentrically onto the existing handwheel with a dual-bolt clamp hub, so the valve does not need to be removed and the pipeline does not need to be shut down. Mounting sequence: confirm the handwheel outside diameter and the stem top clearance; fit the clamp hub to the handwheel and tighten both bolts to the specified torque; thread the chain through the guide loop and join it into a continuous loop; then check the travel against the valve’s full open and closed positions so the chain does not run short at full open.
Wheel Diameter Selection
Standard wheel diameters are 200 mm, 290 mm, 410 mm and 574 mm, covering valves from DN50 to DN1200. Wheel diameter is matched to the operating torque of the valve rather than to its size alone: a large-diameter wheel on a low-torque valve gives an easy pull but long travel, while an undersized wheel on a high-torque valve makes the operation unnecessarily heavy.

At what height does a valve need a chain wheel?
The practical threshold is around two metres. Above that, an operator cannot reach the handwheel safely without a ladder, and most plants prohibit ladder access for routine operation.
How is the chain length calculated?
Chain length equals twice the vertical drop from the handwheel to the operator’s working height, plus the horizontal run and a margin for the loop. Give us the two heights and the offset and we will confirm the length.
Can it be retrofitted to valves already installed?
Yes. The clamp hub mounts onto the existing handwheel without dismantling the valve or draining the line.
Why choose a stainless steel chain wheel instead of a painted one?
Where washdown, salt spray or cleanroom conditions would flake or rust a painted actuator, stainless steel avoids the contamination and inspection problems that paint loss creates. Stainless is also non-sparking, which suits ATEX-rated areas.
Does a chain wheel multiply torque?
No. A chain wheel transfers effort, it does not increase it. Where the valve torque exceeds comfortable manual operation, specify a gear operator with a chain wheel attachment.
